The Best Dairy Free Milk Alternative – Dream Blends September 10, 2013 Australia, Green Living, healthy products, nutrition, product innovation, TDapproved, USA, weight management 8 Comments The Best Dairy Free Milk Alternative – Dream Blends Dairy free, lactose free, gluten free, vegan (…yes I think we get the point that this weeks product is not coming from a cow!).. and with that introduction, I bring to you, Dream Blends. Dream Blends Dairy Free Innovative Healthy Products Dream Blends are an awesome new innovative healthy product that I came across in WholeFoods whilst travelling in the USA this year, and that I have been happily informed can be found in Australia too! I loved that they point out on their website that the product is lactose free when they already tell us it is dairy free…stating the obvious, right? …and the gluten free claim..I don’t think most plain milks contain gluten, but then again, I guess this is part of the marketing spin! All jokes aside, these products (at the moment), are one of a kind. The Dream Blends unsweetened varieties get a huge thumbs up from travelling dietitian over here; Especially the mixes: Coconut, Almond, and Chia Almond, Hazelnut and Cashew They actually also have a new product called Sunflower Dream, which as one would expect, has been created from sunflower seeds! sunflower dream unsweetened dairy free drink Looking at the ingredients list, I would make a calculated assessment that these are all low glycemic index for slow and steady energy release, are low in calories, and provide a range of healthy fats coming from the key ingredients that make up the products. They are enriched with vitamins and minerals to ensure that calcium and Vitamin D are reflective of what you would typically find in cows milk products (that usually have added Vitamin D too), as well as put in some extras such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin B12 and a couple other extras for good measure. Dream Blends Dairy Free Innovative Healthy Products There are some slight variances between the products, but overall they still all sit very nicely as a suitable dairy replacement for those wanting to consume more vegan and vegetarian based foods, or cut down on their dairy intake. Overall, I am a fan (I love seeing healthy innovations in the food supply!).. I am aware that we could just stick to basics and be fine too..but sometimes a little added variety in flavour combinations that are healthy and don’t require preparation time are also a welcomed part of the food mix (at least that is how I feel at this stage in my life!). Have you tried these products yet? If you want more information on the products, here is the link to the Dream Blends webpage. For anyone new to #TDapproved, please check out my introduction post so that you are on top of it and can join in! Or check out the last couple of weeks of #TDapproved products to see if there is something of interest to you there too! One of the varieties seem to contain it as does Almond Breeze and I have read some bad stuff on it but I am sure (as always), there’s conflicting information so I am a bit confused! Where can you but these? 🙂 Log in to Reply Travelling Dietitian September 10, 2013 Hi Galit, thanks for your comments, I feel that if you were not living solely on products containing carrageenan, but rather including 1/2 – 1 cup of a product like this a few times a week, and were otherwise healthy and consuming a nutritious diet that is not rich in other inflammatory causing foods, then it appears it should be alright (I just wouldn’t be suggesting drinking a litre a day if someone had an inflammatory condition in their digestive tract to be on the conservative side). I know they can be ordered online from getprice.com.au, but I have been told from others they are at major supermarkets..you will have to check your local one to check 🙂 Log in to Reply Galit Dresden September 10, 2013 Thanks Kara- was just concerned as I am keen to make smoothies for my little one and can’t seem to find almond milk with any “extras”. Not quite ready to make my own milk yet :). ditec gol4 September 28, 2013 I truly love your website.. Great colors & theme. Did you develop this website yourself?
